as someone who only very recently got over the shame associated with the vulnerability that comes with sharing one's art, this really touched my heart. i feel that art should be created and celebrated simply as a piece of one's mind and soul, and you have quite accurately conveyed my very feelings. (also reading this while mono plays in the background felt like i was having an art film main character moment.) thank you so much for this. <3
apollo, thank you for such a lovely letter. I'm currently in the process of starting to share online, to share a part of myself that has craved and wanted the validation to exist. without this letter, I don't think I would be able to take the next steps to allowing myself to search for the validation I seek.
another piece that i'll make me awake for a little bit at night... you connecting painters, their creative process with our life and things we discuss daily on social media. thanks the universe these artists never met internet, and u asked me why not maybe, here's my answer, internet is a gift as you said yes it is, but sometimes (mostly) is cruel with those with a sensitive soul, as someone who loves writing social media is scared place to express myself and i love to think how freely those artists were in their time, even though we always find people with mix feelings towards art, but this freedom to create, was best thing for them
Wow, just last night I was talking to a friend about my craving for validation since I was a child and it's something I always bring up at therapy...you really put into words the sense that I've been trying to convey. Thank u for giving us space to think about this through! I will be specting the next newsletter! hope u doing fine!
you write insanely well & i love this one so much, the way you view the world is beyond wonderful and it's always such a nice experience reading your newsletters!!!!! i hope u never stop i love these so so much :D
1. You are always going to be more than a number. It's okay to let that number matter for a while but remember that it never defines you. You should take care to let it matter only until it doesn't make you feel like you don't matter.
2. It's not weak to seek the refuge of media when you let it matter. It's not weak or attention seeking or validation fishing, even if part of your brain tells you it is. You're allowed to think that. Don't let it define you.
3. You are always going to be more than your dreams. Your feelings, your thoughts, your actions, your words, your experiences, your expectations, your hopes. If you weren't more- that number would've swallowed you whole, by now.
4. You are always going to be more than your experiences and achievements and failures. You are always going to be more. Sometimes, you'll love it. Other times, you won't. You might get sick of it, loathe it, hate it. But you'll always be more.
i nodded along with this entire piece, i absolutely agree with everything you said. and you put it so eloquently, it's so immersive sim. you're inviting the reader into this conversation and you're inviting them to think. i love that.
